My WHY?  To harness the transformative power of positive change to heal humanity for the purpose of living our best lives.

My journey

"Owning our story can be hard but not as difficult as spending our lives running from it...Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do."

Brene Brown

Born and raised in Lafayette, LA, the heart of Cajun culture, home of some incredible people, food, art, music and also, at that time, the homophobic south. Like many, growing up in a fear based world, I had very little sense of self, esteem or worth, shame was my dominating emotion. The message, "I am not good enough." and "If you really knew me you would not like me."  were my core beliefs about myself. Secrets became a shield of protection. I spent my upbringing seeking love, connection and a sense of belonging in all the wrong places.

In my late teens I began my quest of self discovery that continues today. In my early twenties I dealt with clinical depression, codependency and budding addictions and found myself in a heterosexual marriage. Robert Bly and the Men's Movement of the mid to late 80's were my rite of passage into manhood and I decided to address my closeted sexual orientation. I also began addressing my family dysfunction through psychotherapy, Twelve step programs and the self help section at the bookstore. While coming out and healing my family of origin issues I thought life would be grand but there was still much more work and healing to do. In my mid forties  I walked into the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous emotionally and spiritually bankrupt with a shopping list of consequences, while I had a willingness to address my addictions to alcohol, drugs, and relationships it would be a few years later before I could truly get sober. It was no longer about what the world did to me, it was about taking responsibility for my life. Today, I am proud to say I am in long time recovery.

Ever since I was very young I have had an interest in spiritual things. Raised Catholic. In college I decided to convert and became a born again Southern Baptist. A few years later, I discovered New Age thought, the book, Out on a Limb by Shirley MacLaine and the Seth books. Louise Hay, Dr. Bernie Siegel, Melody Beattie and Shakti Gawain became my heroes and sheroes. Affirmations, energy healers, learning about chakras and crystals became by healing modalities. I mention all of this because they all played a part of me discovering who I am and to heal the emotional and spiritual turmoil I was in.  In the early 90's I discovered Marianne Williamson's book, A Return to Love, Reflections on the Principles of A Course In Miracles and that is where my healing began to grow in leaps and bounds. The conclusion I have discovered is that there is one door of Truth and that door has many names; it is the longest journey of no distance, from my head to my heart. I honor many paths today and learn from many.

I have also known great love and crossed the bridge of grief and loss with the unexpected death of my husband, my partner and best friend in October 2018.

My quest for love, connection and belonging has brought me through many experiences and no matter how hard, awkward, uncomfortable, painful it was or how much I was kicking and screaming throughout I would never trade them for one moment. They have shaped me into the man I am today. Today, I have the sense of self, self esteem and self worth I had always been searching for.  I am forever grateful for my story. The journey continues.
